HEATING SYSTEMS
The choice of a heating system is important both for its performance level and for the consumption cost and environmental footprint. ZILLION leverages its vast experience in all types of heating installations and provides the best heating solution based on coverage needs, climatic conditions, and prevailing infrastructure in each area.
HEAT PUMPS
ZILLION has installed many heat pumps in both residential and industrial applications. A heat pump is a system that provides heating, cooling, and hot water production. Thanks to its high energy efficiency, low maintenance costs, and ease of installation, it is the ideal choice for most applications.
BIOMASS
The combustion of biomass is one of the oldest methods of space heating. Over the past decade, biomass boiler technology has significantly evolved, achieving a substantial reduction in emissions while maintaining comparable efficiency to oil and gas boilers. Moreover, automation and operation features of biomass boilers have been significantly improved.
Modern boilers that use wood chips or pellets are high-tech devices with automatic fuel feeding. They operate at high temperatures, with electronically controlled air supply, and have an efficiency greater than 90% for extracting the heating energy contained in the fuel.
Compared to the low efficiency of an open fireplace or a conventional wood boiler, modern biomass boilers are noticeably more efficient. They have relatively low emissions of pollutants, while the most advanced models feature automatic fuel feeding systems, automatic cleaning of heat exchanger surfaces, and automatic ash removal.
NATURAL GAS
Since the introduction of natural gas in Greece, ZILLION has been involved in natural gas combustion installations. Natural gas is the cleanest source of primary energy after renewable forms. Emissions of pollutants compared to other fuels such as oil are lower, and the improvement in efficiency reduces overall fuel consumption and minimizes environmental impact. The supply and installation are always accompanied by the necessary studies for their connection to the public utility network
FOSSIL FUEL BOILERS
In 2015, the new European Ecodesign directive was officially implemented, which requires all energy-related products (ErP – Energy related Products) to have mandatory energy efficiency labels and meet the minimum requirements of the directive regarding energy efficiency, emissions, and other criteria. The minimum energy efficiency and emissions requirements defined in the directive, specifically for oil and gas boilers, are such that conventional boilers as we knew them until now cannot achieve.
Condensing boilers have completely replaced conventional boilers. Their main difference is that condensing boilers can utilize and extract the energy stored in the hot flue gases before releasing them into the environment at very low temperatures. To achieve this, a flue gas to water heat exchanger is installed at the outlet of the boiler. The heat from the hot flue gases is transferred to the water in a closed circuit, resulting in an increase in the efficiency of a condensing boiler, and the flue gases are emitted at cooler temperatures into the atmosphere.
The efficiency levels achieved through flue gas condensation are higher than 100%, and the flue gases are expelled at a temperature of 60°C (instead of 200°C), achieving exceptional fuel economy.
UNDERFLOOR HEATING
For the past 40 years, ZILLION has been installing underfloor heating and cooling systems, providing great flexibility in spaces due to the absence of radiators or other terminal units. In addition to the aesthetic advantage, underfloor systems offer ideal thermal comfort conditions by providing a homogeneous temperature throughout the space. They combine perfectly with low-temperature heat pumps and are the most cost-effective heating system in terms of operational expenses.
